I'm Jacob Voncannon. I live in Spring Branch on the west side of Houston with my wife Whitney and our three kids. Whitney and I have known each other since we were two years old, grew up in the same community, both went to Baylor, and are now raising our kids about twenty minutes from where we started.
My Story
I own and operate real estate assets, primarily multifamily, in Texas through Bold Virtue Management, and I do it full time. My father Jeff and I run Circle J Ranch, nearly a thousand acres along the Brazos River outside Hempstead that he bought in 2008. Circle J Meat grew out of that ranch after Hurricane Harvey put the back five hundred acres underwater, and now sells Wagyu and grass-fed Akaushi direct, plus a farmers market stand here in Houston.
Before real estate I spent about a decade in software marketing. I bought my first rental at twenty-five, before Whitney and I bought a house to live in, and eventually the portfolio got big enough that running it made more sense than keeping my job.
That software background is the most useful thing I carried over. I build the tools we use to operate, and I've wasted enough money on software that didn't help to be some use to other operators working through the same question.
Why the company is called Bold Virtue
The name comes from Nehemiah 5, where the people holding the debt in a famine are not foreign occupiers but the community's own leadership, and nothing they're doing breaks a rule. Nehemiah tells them it isn't good anyway, makes them give it back, and then declines the compensation he himself was entitled to.
Everything permitted is not therefore right. Owning housing means holding real leverage over people's lives, and how you use it is a decision you make long before it comes up. The way I'd put our standard is that we try to be kind without being nice.
Boldness earns the opportunity. Virtue earns the right to keep it, and I wrote out the chapter our company is named out of at more length.
What I write about here
Running properties, and what it actually takes rather than what it looks like from outside. The technology and AI I use to do it, including what hasn't worked. The ranch and the beef business. And how faith fits into work that involves other people's homes and other people's money.
I also host small gatherings around Houston, the kind built to get people who wouldn't otherwise meet into the same room. That started because it was the thing I wanted to exist when I was getting started and couldn't find.
